And, yes, the D-cell configuration translates into a marathon burn time for a new set of cells. (The maker claims that after a straight month in the 'on' mode that one can still read a newspaper by the remaining level of LED light!) This cad-designed, beautifully-shaped light is designed smartly of a tough, space-age polymer with softer cushioning in the grip areas. According to the folks at Lightwave, the 4000 passed the company's tortuous 4-foot concrete 'drop-test', surviving intact and working just fine, thank-you!. At over 1- 1/2 lbs when loaded with its 3 'D' cells and measuring 10/ 1/2" by 2", it is not your average key-chain light! The sensitive push-button switch is operable with just one hand and is a welcome feature in what seems to be a world of 'twist-on' LED baton-style lights. The rubber capped, dome switch clicks on and off with a concise, precision 'ping' and it does have a momentary-on when partially depressed. Thought not a diving light, the 4000 is watertight to 1 foot underwater- quite adequate for a light of this type. Output is bright and even from the 10 LED, circular array. The 4000 carries a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty from the maker. The Lightwave 4000 is quite a weapon in the arsenal of this next-generation of LED portable lighting.
